Alchemy began as a small side project, created to add a distinctive element alongside the brands within our boutique store Saltworks in Charlotte Court. As interest in our own designs grew, we made the decision to develop Alchemy as an exclusive brand within Saltworks.

As it happens, ‘Alchemy’ was the name of one of the first eight fragrances we launched as part of our perfume range back in 2014. But it also captured something more enduring: the idea that great clothing has a quiet kind of magic—the ability to transform how you feel, without ever trying too hard.

The response was immediate. With new stock arriving weekly and a focus on unique, one-off pieces, Alchemy quickly became a destination. Demand soon extended beyond our physical store, particularly from visitors asking for a way to shop with us online.

We later opened our second shop Alchemy, a larger space on the high street, that introduced the brand to an even wider audience. It was from here that Alchemy Signature emerged, offering a more considered and refined approach to design.

Our customers were always on the move - on the beach with the dogs, on the school run, working, travelling, or meeting friends. What they needed was clothing that felt quiet and elegant, designed to integrate effortlessly into their existing wardrobe rather than compete with it. Pieces that move easily from day to night, and from one part of the day to the next.

At the same time, we wanted to use high quality fabrics that feel luxurious yet remain easy to care for, avoiding the need for constant maintenance or dry cleaning. Each season, we design our collections as a capsule, ensuring every piece works together with ease.

With clear direction and designs developed in-house, this is what you see today. We hope these pieces become a lasting and trusted part of your wardrobe.
